You had me at hello!

We all remember that famous line from the film Jerry Maguire, where Renee Zellweger’s character said “You had me at hello!” and we all know the importance of first impressions, but did you know that people who have had facial cosmetic procedure are considered more trustworthy!  From smiles to wrinkles it all counts!

A new study by Georgetown University in the US recently discovered that no matter what facial rejuvenation procedure you may have had, you are considered more trustworthy than a person who has not!  Results showed that no matter the procedure – facelift, eyelift, chin lift – people who have improved their features by undergoing cosmetic surgery appeared more trustworthy afterward.

“We analyze faces all the time and don’t even consciously realize it,” explains Dr. Jay Dutton, (a cosmetic surgeon in the US) “In fact, our brains make snap decisions on how ‘trustworthy’ someone is based on their face within milliseconds. Obviously, that is a value every potential employer looks for in a job candidate.”

Experts agree that small changes in a face, can really alter someone’s perception about you.  For example, less saggy eyelids after an eye lift may make you appear more trustworthy, whiter teeth that have rounder edges give you a more feminine look; or a squarer, more masculine jaw may make you appear more dominant.  These small changes can have a significant impact on how people perceive you.

However, peoples’ perception of you should never be the reason why you choose cosmetic surgery.  If you should choose to go down the cosmetic surgery route, it should only ever be to make you feel good, both inside and out.
