Facelifts are one of the top five most popular plastic surgery procedures they can create amazing transformations. The problem is that a facelift isn’t always going to accomplish all your goals. The transformation might need a little bit of help. That’s why we’re talking about procedures that complement a facelift.
These are procedures that, when paired with a facelift, will augment the overall effect, adding to the youthful image the surgeries have established. Some of these complementary procedures might seem rather obvious, while others can be quite surprising.
The purpose of any facial plastic surgery procedure will vary depending on the patient–and what the patient wants to accomplish. The same will, of course, be true of these complementary procedures. Most patients who undergo a facelift procedure are looking to rejuvenate the face in some way, so that’s our operational assumption as we look at procedures that complement a facelift.
Complementary Procedure #1: Necklift
There is, perhaps, no procedure that pairs better with a facelift than a necklift. That’s because wrinkles tend to form around the face and the neck concurrently–they’re subject to the same basic forces of aging, environment, and genetics. So when your face exhibits lines and wrinkles, your neck usually does as well.
A facelift, however, will only ever address the wrinkles and lines of the face. If the signs of aging are left in place around the neck, the overall transformation–the appearance of youthfulness–might be diminished.
With a necklift is designed to minimize and mitigate the wrinkles and lines that appear around the neck. This procedure is especially popular because the neck, for various reasons, tends to be one of those areas of the body that accumulates a significant quantity of classic aging signs. A necklift, combined with a facelift, can help complete the overall transformation.
When you get a facelift and a necklift, you’re not leaving behind any clues that you had a plastic surgery procedure. All anyone will see is radiant, youthful-looking skin.
Complementary Procedure #2: Blepharoplasty
Necklift and facelift make a great combination because they help complete each other’s work. That’s also true with this second complementary procedure: blepharoplasty. Also known as an eyelid lift, blepharoplasty is designed to eliminate lines and wrinkles around the eyes. A blepharoplasty will address lines and wrinkles that likely won’t be diminished directly by a facelift.
That’s because the eyes tend to develop their very own lines and wrinkles–often exacerbated by excess skin. Excess skin that forms around the eyes can have an amplification effect on lines and wrinkles in the area. That’s because the eyes are central to the way we communicate.
Blepharoplasty is designed to eliminate that excess tissue from around the eyelids and, if necessary, reposition fat causing bulges in the area. The end results are eyes that look more youthful and energetic (in addition to actually seeing better as well, because excess skin can actually droop so low that it impedes your field of vision). Combined with a facelift, blepharoplasty can help you look significantly more youthful in a way that appears natural and normal.
More Complementary Procedures
Blepharoplasty and Necklift aren’t the only complementary procedures that go hand in hand with a facelift. Many of the following procedures are paired with facelift (if not during surgery, then shortly afterwards):
• Botox or other injectables (after healing is complete)
• Jawline surgery (making the jawline more slender or slim looking)
• Lip augmentation
As mentioned before, what defines “complementary” will in part be decided by what the individual patient is trying to accomplish. Sometimes a facelift procedure is more reconstructive in nature. Other times, facelifts are performed to address one or two very specific areas of the face.
However, broadly speaking, facelifts are intended to help rejuvenate your overall look. In those cases, complementary procedures will also attempt to rejuvenate a specific area. When it comes to neck lift or blepharoplasty, it’s easy to see how those results can augment and complete the results from a facelift.
During your consultation, you’ll discuss whether complementary procedures will help you achieve your goals or not. In some cases, these procedures might not be needed. But for some patients, completing the rejuvenation project could mean looking at some of these other procedures as well.
In the end, you’ll appear more youthful and energized. A facelift–especially when combined with a complementary procedure–is designed to create this transformation in a way that looks natural and unforced. That way, people won’t necessarily know you’ve had work done. They’ll just know you look good. And the procedures that complement a facelift will help you achieve just that.
