Eyelid Surgery

A popular procedure for men, Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery as it is more widely called, is the removal of excess fat and skin on the upper and/or lower eyelid area.

Eyelid Surgery

As you age, the appearance of the skin around the eyes can make you look tired, adding years to your face. The skin can look loose, wrinkled and saggy. This surgery aims to remove loose and baggy skin from the upper eyelids and lower eyelids. In addition fat pockets that are bulging out are removed as well.

Having a Blepharoplasty procedure increases your confidence and self-esteem giving an overall improved appearance with less sign of ageing.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

Eyelid surgery is usually performed with local anaesthesia with or without heavy or “twilight” sedation, which generally means that an overnight stay in hospital is not necessary and that recovery time is decreased.

Incisions are made following the natural lines of your eyelids: in the creases of the upper lids and just below the lashes in the lower lids. These incisions are extended a little way into the crow’s feet or laughter lines at the corner of the eye. Through these incisions surplus fat and skin is removed and sagging muscles tightened. In the lower eyelid the cutting of skin may not be necessary and fat may be removed from inside the eyelid.

Will my consultation be with a surgeon?

All consultations take place with a surgeon. We believe that only a surgeon can help and advise you on the best procedure to achieve the results you would like.

During your initial consultation, we will ask you about the results you are looking for and explain the procedure so that you understand every stage of the process. The most important thing is that you feel completely at ease in our care and fully aware of the procedure and the resulting enhancement.

Are your consultations free?

All of our consultations are free with no obligation. You will be provided with advice and information relevant to achieve the results you desire.

What will happen after the Eyelid Surgery?

Following your eyelid surgery, your surgeon will see you when you have recovered to check that all is well, and you will usually be discharged the same day. You’ll be given medication and post-operative instructions along with appropriate telephone numbers in case you need to contact us at any time.

Week 1-2

For the first few days after eyelid surgery you will be advised to keep your head elevated and use cold compresses to reduce swelling. You will also be able to use a prescribed ointment for the first few days. After a week or so you will see our surgeon who will remove the stitches.

Bruising and swelling will gradually subside although the eyes may remain watery for a few weeks afterwards. With eyelid surgery occasionally you may experience dryness and itchiness. Tightening of scars can make the eyelids feel heavy or “different” for the first few weeks. Vision may also be hazy for first 1-2 weeks.

Weeks 8-10

Your surgeon will see you again, usually 8-10 weeks after your eyelid surgery for a full post-operative check. By this stage all swelling should have disappeared and scars will gradually fade over a period of a few months.
