Genetics, exposure to sunshine, smoking and life style are the most important factors that affect the ageing process. This leads to loss of tone in the skin and ligaments of the face resulting in the appearance of jowls, loose neck, deepening nose to mouth lines and droopiness of eye brows and eyelids.

In addition, as we grow older facial skin develops wrinkles and lines due to damage caused by environmental factors such as sun and smoking and our skin becomes thinner and more fragile.

Facelifts used to be considered something for those in their late 40’s or 50’s or later, but now with the wide variety of subtle minimal access lifts available, people as young as in their 30’s are seeking surgery.

The Facelift Procedure

At Linia, facelift surgery is generally performed under local anaesthetic with or without sedation, although in many other clinics it is performed under a general anaesthetic.

Surgeons who perform face lift surgery under local anaesthetic state that there is minimal distortion due to there being no anaesthetic tube and they can make the face move as they want, therefore they believe that this way they can often achieve better results.

To achieve the lift, incisions are made in the existing skin creases and hair bearing regions surrounding the ear. The skin is lifted as a flap. The loose fat is re-draped or removed and the muscles tightened and lifted.

Then excess skin is removed and stitched to create a smoother, more refined contour for your neck and jawline. Self-dissolving sutures are used. You will find that this gets rid of loose skin and problem lines and wrinkles with the overall effect of giving the face and neck a much softer, refreshed and younger look.

You may also qualify for a less invasive S-facelift surgery, depending on your desired result. Your options can be discussed with your surgeon at your consultation appointment.

What Results to Expect After Facelift Surgery?

Generally, it can take anything from 2 to 3 months for your face to really feel different. However, you will find you are presentable within 10 to 14 days.

Once the bruising and swelling has reduced, you will start to see positive results. You will have a more rested and youthful appearance, as well as your skin looking tighter, rather than sagging as it may have started to.

After the initial recovery period, patients generally report feeling much more confident and rejuvenated in their appearance!

Average Cost of Facelift Surgery

When it comes to the cost of facelift surgery, it will depend on the extent of the work required.

Every facelift is different, so there is no set price.

For instance, a mini facelift could cost just a couple of thousand pounds.

While a more extensive, face and neck lift procedure could cost as much as £10,000 and maybe more depending on what is required by the patient.

You will be advised about the cost of your treatment during your initial consultation appointment.

Follow-up appointments and any other surgery or treatment you require following your facelift may cost more.

What are the Risks and Side Effects of Facelift Surgery?

At LINIA Skin Clinic we take every measure and precaution to limit the side effects and risks of facelift surgery.

However, as is the case with all cosmetic surgery procedures, there is always a chance things may go wrong.

Some of the most common side effects of facelift surgery include:

  • Raised sideburn or hairline
  • Scars, that will fade in time, but may not disappear completely
  • Temporary bruising, around the cheeks, but will move downwards towards your neck in time
  • Numb, puffy and stiff face, for anything from a week to a few weeks following surgery

On the rare occasion, more serious complications may occur – though most of these are treatable – including the following:

  • Obvious and thick scars
  • Either a slight reduction in hair growth or complete hair loss around your scars
  • Asymmetrical facial features, such as earlobe positions
  • Loss of movement or sensation in your face or some other kind of nerve injury
  • Haematoma, or blood collecting beneath the skin

There are also the risks that come with any invasive surgery, such as:

  • Anaesthetic causing an allergic reaction
  • Infection
  • Blood clots in your veins close to where the procedure has been performed
  • Excessive amounts of bleeding

Again, these side effects and risks are very rare but we like to make all patients aware of them so they may make an informed decision. The chances of these side effects is greatly reduced when surgery is performed by highly qualified and experienced practitioners like we have here at Linia Cosmetic clinics.

What is the Recovery Time For a Facelift?

The average recovery time required for a facelift is between 2 and 4 weeks. You would need to take time off work.

You should expect visible bruising for around 2 weeks following the procedure, and it could take anything from 6 to 9 months to fully see the final result of the facelift.

You need to avoid driving following your surgery, your surgeon will give you a recommendation regarding this time period.

You will also need to avoid getting your bandages wet and showering for at least 2 days after your surgery and avoid any massages, saunas and rigorous activity for the first 2 weeks of recovery.

It is also recommended that you make sure you use pillows to prop up your head while you rest for a few days following the procedure to help reduce swelling.

Will my consultation be with a surgeon?

All consultations take place with a surgeon. We believe that only a surgeon can help and advise you on the best procedure to achieve the results you would like.

During your initial consultation, we will ask you about the results you are looking for and explain the procedure so that you understand every stage of the process. The most important thing is that you feel completely at ease in our care and fully aware of the procedure and the resulting enhancement.

Are your consultations free?

All of our consultations are free with no obligation. You will be provided with advice and information relevant to achieve the results you desire.

What will happen after the Facelift operation?

Following your facelift surgery, your surgeon will see you when you have recovered to check that all is well. You’ll be given medication and post-operative instructions and will wear a small bandage over the incision site for 1-2 days. You will also be given appropriate telephone numbers in case you need to contact us at any time.

Week 1-2

Most of our facelift patients resume normal activities within 7 days. It depends on the individual. You will also receive a check-up 7-10 days after your surgery. Most of our surgeons use dissolving stitches. The puffiness and bruising usually clears up in 2 weeks and normal make-up may then be applied.

Weeks 8-10

Your surgeon will see you again, usually 8-10 weeks after the facelift surgery for a full post-operative consultation.
